The NewLanders have researched and
rediscovered songs that capture the American experience. By interweaving
traditional instruments, including the Appalachian lap dulcimer, fiddle, and
mandolin, with richly layered harmonies and electric guitar and bass, the
NewLanders have created a contemporary sound, while honoring and preserving the
inspiring stories of the past. A NewLanders' performance includes engaging
narrations and real-life accounts from the mills, mines, rivers, and fields of
their home region, western Pennsylvania, as well as haunting songs and poignant
stories that celebrate the enduring spirit that build our nation.
Our new project, "Born of Fire", is a
collaboration with the Westmoreland Museum of American Art and video producer
Bill Mosher, that tells the human story of steel through art, song, and
history. Our new CD, "Born of Fire: Songs of Steel
and Industry" is available separately or as part of a boxed set
containing the book, "The Valley of Work," the compact disc, "Songs of Steel and
Industry," and the DVD, "How Pittsburgh Built a Nation."
The story of steel as you've never seen before!
Our "Born of Fire" concerts in
Germany were a great success. The standing ovation from the
crowd in Oberhausen was a highlight of our tour. The band returns to
Europe to play a concert at the Chemnitz Industrial Museum in Chemnitz,
Germany on October 7, 2008. We have added a new German language web page (Deutsche Webseite) for our audience there.
"Industrial history has a sound & this sound
has a name, it's called the NewLanders" - Dr. Thomas Schleper, Rhineland
Industrial Museum, Oberhausen Germany
